Orchid Thai Cuisine (Milpitas, CA)
9:30:00 AM
Located in the center of Milpitas, Orchid
Thai Cuisine is what I call a “hole-in-the-wall” restaurant. In fact, the
restaurant looks like it was previously a Taco Bell before Orchid Thai took it
over and renovated it to their taste.
Although a fairly small restaurant, it
appears to be fairly well loved by the locals. My family and I went to have
dinner there on a Friday night at around 6 PM and it was about half full. My
parents aren’t all that familiar with Thai food so I ordered them the typical
shrimp pad thai, pineapple fried rice and I ordered the pad kee mao.
The pad thai and pineapple fried rice was
pretty good, but I think they burnt my pad kee mao. There was this mild burnt
smell to it that I don’t normally come across when I order pad kee mao at other
restaurants, but when I asked the waitress—who I assume also owns the
restaurant—she said that’s just how beef pad kee mao is supposed to smell.
I still have my suspicions, but I’ll rest my
case for now.
The only downside was that we waited for
nearly an hour for our order just for them to mess up on my aunt’s order. So I
was pretty disappointed with their service. My aunt recommended this place
because they have a great selection for lunch, but I was not impressed when I
went there for their dinner service.
Also, Orchid Thai Cuisine does not open on
the weekends. Yes, they are closed on Saturday and Sunday, so plan accordingly
if you decide to make a future visit.
Does Pad Kee Mao have a distinctive burnt-like smell? Or was it all lies?
